The girls have been going to Sally's for awhile, learning how to knit and sew, garden, cook, and can. It's been amazing having Sally as a pseudo-Grandma, we are truly blessed. Then I got jealous, that my just turned-twelve-year-old daughter could knit a whole sweater, and I can't knit a straight line. (My excuse was always that I was left-handed, no one could ever teach me properly) but Cassidy is my left-handed child, so I couldn't go there!
Then my eight-year-old started making her own jumper. I could barely sew a button, and couldn't decipher a pattern if my life depended on it. So Sally kindly invited me this time, as well. Today I cut out my own pattern for a little girl's jumper. I am so excited!
Trinity's project
Courtney getting her's ready. She's making herself a dress, with sleeves and a collar, and button-holes, no less.
Cassidy's almost-finished sweater.
Jordan getting a little sewing machine help from Sarah. She's making a dress for her doll.
Readying a pattern.
Lucky doll.
So many projects going on at once!
Sally's house is so cool, and warm (if that makes sense). My kids want to live there.
Kristen,
ReplyDeleteWhen I was in school the they didn't offer a choice when it came to Home Ec. and Shop. So I took the sewing and cooking classes. I would have loved Shop. I wish I knew more about woodworking and metalworking. But, I'm glad that I do know what I know about cooking and cleaning and sewing. I am no expert on any of these skills but I can get by just fine. I feel that everyONE not just girls should know how to sew and knit (if they want to know how). If you have two hands and a brain then you should be able to know about it what ever it is. Subjects shouldn't be taught as these are for just girls and these are just for boys. Ya know? If Sally is willing to teach you then GO FOR IT!!
Maureen
You are so lucky to have a Sally in your life! Her house looks lovely and I am so glad to see that she is sharing her knowledge with the younger generation. Can't wait to see your first sewing project.
