Breakfast: What else?!
Lunch: Tuna sandwiches, $4.80 for 6 cans of tuna. $3.79 for a loaf of bread. $1.25 for some lettuce.
$9.84 for a not very satisfying lunch.
Dinner tonight was expensive, we had the tilapia, the sweet potatoes, and the collard greens. At $27.50 we had the most expensive day of all, $38.50.
I do love fish, and it is sooo expensive, and the sales are still expensive. I have never seen fish less than $5.99/lb. Fish sticks don't count. Oh well, this little experiment is helping me see where I over spend, and what is actually very cost-effective.
Another thing to mention, our town's community center gives away food on Friday afternoon, just to help out in this economy. All you have to do is sign up. Anyone can go. The food has reached its expiration date but is still good if you use it expediently, which is not a problem around here. Today we brought home a dozen cans of corn, two large bags of carrots, a bag of potatoes, 2 large bags of onions, a large bag of restaurant-sized (or our family sized) coleslaw mix, 3 dozen eggs, a loaf of bread, a pumpkin pie, several grapefruit, and apples, which were already eaten for an afternoon snack.
Happy Feast of Epiphany, everyone!
I love that your community center does that - what a blessing! Wish they did that around here!
